Calligram

Image
This project was extremely difficult for me. No matter how many things I changed, I never felt like the calligram looked like me. I am still proud of my project and think it looks cool, it just doesn't really look like me. Here is the original photo:  For this project, we were also asked to write a letter to ourselves in 20 years. This is what I wrote: Dear 38-year-old Sydney,  You’re almost 40… ew. The fact that a 40-year-old version of myself will one day exist may or may not have triggered a 30-minute panic attack anticipating the first gray hair I find or the first wrinkle on my face. Maybe the vanity in this statement will seem childish to you; I hope that there’s something in your life that makes your physically fleeting body feel irrelevant or at least less bothersome. I really can’t fathom who I would be in 20 years. Honestly, I’m still figuring out who I am right now. I hope that every morning I get to wake up and do something that I love. I’m not exactly sure...

Logos and Business Card

Image
The five words that I thought best described me were: creative, sarcastic, ambitious, loving, and intuitive. I googled these words to create mood boards to draw inspiration from for my final logo. For the word I chose, creative, many of the inspiration pictures were too busy. My major is film and media arts, so I incorporated my primary creative outlet, filmmaking, into my logo. The final logo was the word creative with the "A" turned into a tripod and camera.  Here is my process for creating this logo:

Canvas Project

Image
For my final canvas project, I decided to create a dolphin jumping out of the water. Bottlenose dolphins are highly intelligent and are able to adapt to their changing environment surprisingly well. As a freshman in college, I was hoping that creating this dolphin would manifest that I too adapt to my changing environment with the same grace and diligence. This project was difficult because of the amount of bezier and quadratic curves. Luckily, patience is one of my best qualities, but I do have to admit that I cried on three separate occasions while completing my project: once while creating the bottom water splashes, and twice while adding color and attempting to give my dolphin volume.  Below I will include a picture of my final project, the reference image, and the code used to create it:  <!doctype html> <html> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8"> <title> dolphin </title> <!-- import external .js scripts here --> <!-- <script...

Canvas Exercise: Shapes with Radial and Linear Gradients

Image
Today, I got the opportunity to play with shapes and gradients in DreamWeaver. The purpose of my work was to create six different shapes: three with radial gradients, and three with linear gradients. One thing that I would do differently is make my piece more cohesive; all of my shapes (except for the upper left-hand rectangle with the triangle and the middle pyramid with the rectangle in the background) are completely independent of each other. Nonetheless, my project accomplished its main goals and I am proud of what I created.

Introduction

Hello! My name is Sydney Poniewaz. I am from a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri and am currently attending the University of Tampa to study film and media arts. I come from a family of creatives: both my brother and my dad are musicians. I, unfortunately, have a terrible singing voice and no musical talent, but I have found my passion instead in visual storytelling.      Film has always served an important role in my life. I believe that it is a vital tool not only to gain an understanding of yourself, but also the world around you. I am excited to participate in FMX 210 this semester, and feel incredibly lucky to have this opportunity to grow as a filmmaker and as a person.
